Add GroupWisdom to a team, enter the code it posts, and choose which project the team belongs to. Until you do, it is not reading anything.
GroupWisdom is one small app package. There are three ways in, and the first one works in every organisation.

One upload, no approval step. A few hours later it appears under Built for your org in the Teams store, and from then on anyone can open the store, find GroupWisdom, and choose Add to a team. Nobody needs custom-app permissions, and this route cannot be switched off.
Choose the option to submit it to your organisation. Any user can; an admin approves it, and it appears under Built for your org the same way.
Pick the zip and choose Add to a team. Microsoft's own steps, if you want them with screenshots. If "Upload a custom app" is missing, custom uploads are switched off for the organisation — an admin can turn them on under Setup policies, or just use the first route; it never is.
Whichever way it arrives, GroupWisdom joins the team, reads only that team's standard channels, and posts a message with a Connect this team button. Press it and the code below fills itself in.
Six characters, from the message GroupWisdom posted when it was added to your team. If you pressed the button there, it is already filled in. It lasts 24 hours.
Findings land in a project on your account, so your team's context stays yours.

This is where the team's work is read into, and where its findings live.
Message text, the name of the person who wrote it, and the channel it came from. Nothing from private channels, and nothing from chats it has not been added to. What it says in one channel is built only from what that channel can see.
Raw message text is deleted after 30 days. What is kept beyond that is a bounded summary of what the team has established. Nothing read here trains any model. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
